Meanwhile, the Battalion Commander, Marcus Baisar, recognizes the squad's potential as a strategic variable and agrees to bring back their original Platoon leader, Encrid. After three days, Encrid returns to the rear to meet the squad. He reveals a minor wrist injury sustained in a city scuffle. Upon his return to the Mad Squadron's tent, the members—who had all been contemplating leaving due to boredom and lack of direction—are relieved. Andrew Gardner greets him with emotional outbursts, and the squad reunites under Encrid's leadership.
