He instructs Esther to cover his back, leaving her to fend off the enraged monsters while he crawls through the carnage toward his true target: the knoll leader. During this intense combat, Encrid reflects on his progress in mastering the Sense of Evasion and his ability to conceal his killing intent, noting that his skills have significantly improved over the hundreds of repetitive days he has endured.
