Encrid decides to face the newcomer to seek further growth. The challenger is revealed to be Pel, a member of the Shepherds of the Wilderness. The two engage in an intense, high-speed duel where both become deeply immersed in the combat. During a decisive exchange, Encrid attempts a guillotine cut, but Pel uses his scabbard to block the strike. In the ensuing clash, Pel's sword is unsheathed, and a graze from the blade strikes Encrid's forehead.
