Krais expresses suspicion regarding the loyalty of the Green Pearl Battalion Commander, suggesting they might have been turned by the enemy. As the snow stops, the army prepares to march. The chapter ends as the Green Pearl Battalion Commander appears to greet Encrid, with Krais's ominous suspicions appearing to be realized by the commander's reaction.
