Using his heightened sixth sense, Jaxon lures the assassins by feigning clumsiness and breaking formation. He successfully eliminates all three, discovering a Black Lily tattoo on one of them, which suggests a connection he cannot ignore. Jaxon decides to take a short break to investigate this lead, bidding a brief, respectful farewell to Encrid, who is recovering from severe injuries. Encrid enters a cycle of intensive recovery characterized by constant hunger due to the Isolation Technique. While bedridden, he is visited by various comrades: Sinar, who offers to feed him with Fairy-style humor; Helma and a chatty soldier who bring him nutritious food; and Ragna, who makes lighthearted remarks. During his recovery, Encrid learns that Aspen's forces are retreating, though Kreise Allman remains suspicious of the move. After two days of rest and eating, Encrid's regenerative abilities allow him to stand and move again, much to Sinar's surprise, though he remains only halfway to full strength.
