Encrid observes Krang, noting how he fights with such intensity. Upon approaching the palace, the group is intercepted by a Royal Guard captain in a dark gray helmet. A tense confrontation ensues when a low-ranking guard insults the group, prompting Krang to aggressively rebuke the guards and defend their dignity. Despite the friction, the group is escorted to the palace outskirts and enters a carriage. During the journey, Encrid reflects on his previous, more difficult visits to the Capital. Upon arriving at the palace entrance, they encounter Viscount Bentra, a noble under Count Molsen who is a political rival of Marcus Visar. Bentra informs the group that the Queen has summoned them to the audience chamber. While the rest of the group is told to wait outside, Bentra insists on personally guiding Encrid into the chamber, claiming the Queen wishes to see the hero of the Border Guard. As Encrid enters, he notices a sharp, rancid odor emanating from the Viscount. Inside the chamber, the Queen has not yet arrived, leaving Encrid alone with six nobles.
