Ragna Zaun begins training Encrid in swordsmanship, trading his own longsword for Encrid's arming sword to better suit Encrid's strength. The training is grueling, and Ragna provides constant, harsh critiques on Encrid's fundamentals. During their session, Rem arrives to scold them for skipping meals, leading to a brief bickering match between Rem and Ragna. As the training concludes, an enemy force appears, accompanied by a thick, unnatural fog created by the Duchy of Aspen's sorcery. The 'Fog of Annihilation' blinds the enemy forces while allowing the Aspen troops to see clearly. Amidst the chaos of invisible arrows and spears, Encrid finds himself caught in the fray. Despite Ragna's attempts to protect him, Encrid is repeatedly killed by enemy soldiers—first by a spear to the neck, and subsequently in subsequent loops. Each time he dies, the day resets. Encrid, driven by a newfound desire to master the sword, accepts Ragna's offer to continue training and enters the loop again, repeatedly dying to refine his skills through the time loop.
