The Count offers Esther immense resources and artifacts in exchange for her stepping aside and merely watching his plans unfold. He attempts to manipulate her by appealing to her nature as a wizard seeking to expand her world. Esther, however, refuses to be swayed by the will of others, asserting her identity as a witch of the Dark World. She unleashes her fire, incinerating the wizards and rejecting the Count's offer. As the illusion fades, the Count asks if she believes Encrid is still alive, to which Esther sneers that Encrid is too resilient to die from such a thing. Meanwhile, Rem is engaged in a high-stakes chase against the Madman of Immortality through the alleyways of Nauril's Capital. Rem uses a sling with incredible precision, striking the Madman despite the man's high-level sorcery defenses. The chase leads to a plaza where the Madman has gathered twenty fugitives from the West to intercept Rem. Rem demonstrates overwhelming combat prowess, using dual slings to kill several men instantly and then switching to an axe to cleave through the remaining attackers. Despite the Madman's desperate tactics, including throwing a disciple at Rem, Rem's relentless strength and training—fueled by his desire to surpass Ragna—allow him to dominate the battlefield. After slaughtering most of the group, Rem pursues the fleeing Madman of Immortality, leaving the survivors in shock.
