Andrew, facing certain death alongside a wounded Esther, decides to fight to preserve his honor rather than flee. Just as Andrew is about to be overwhelmed, Teresa and Dunbachel arrive to rescue him, decimating the ambushers. Meanwhile, Esther, though weakened and coughing blood, prepares a fallback plan based on her absolute faith in Enkrid's ability to defeat the Count. The Count, undeterred by the disruption of his magic, begins a massive incantation to extract souls. He releases a black, soot-like mist that carries spirits attempting to possess humans. As the darkness spreads, the spirits find themselves unable to possess Encrid due to his immense willpower, Rem by his axe, Ragna by his indifference, and Jaxon by his agility. Audin Pumrei, however, uses his divine power to instantly annihilate the spirits that attempt to enter him. Frustrated by the resistance, the Count manifests ten thousand ghost soldiers from the soot to crush the approaching group. Encrid orders Rem to form a battle formation to face the oncoming horde.
