Encrid, Oara, Rem, and Roman share drinks under the moonlight. Oara speaks of her ex-husband, a handsome bard named Jerix, and claims she became a Knight because of him. She expresses a fierce desire to wipe out the Demon Realm before she dies. After the group retires for the night, a monster's scream awakens Encrid. He, Rem, Dunbachel, and Luagarne gear up and head to the western gate, where they meet a calm military commander leading soldiers. Dunbachel detects a strange scent used as a signal by monsters, which Luagarne notes is a common communication method for them. At the western wall, the soldiers engage in a skirmish against a mass of giant spiders. Encrid finds Oara on the wall, looking visibly exhausted. When Encrid questions her well-being, Oara reveals that she is suffering from poison, showing him bulging blue veins on her abdomen beneath her cloak.
