Encrid participates in a promotion match to gain recognition from intermediate soldiers. He first defeats a former mercenary with a trip, much to the confusion of onlookers. His second opponent, a heavy infantryman wielding a spear, attempts a swift thrust, but Encrid uses Ragna's advice to maintain focus, dodges the attack, and uses a combination of a feinted thrust and a shin trip to bring the soldier down. Andrew Gardner and Mac observe the duel, with Mac noting that Encrid's skills have improved tremendously and that even he would find a fight against Encrid difficult. Vengeance also watches the commotion. Kreise Allman provokes a third soldier from the 2nd Platoon to fight Encrid, mocking the man for his previous insults toward Encrid. The third soldier, despite his initial hesitation, engages Encrid. Encrid remains focused, avoiding the mistake of underestimating his opponent. He wins the third match through superior technique, locking blades and tripping the soldier to secure victory. The onlookers, including former critics, are left in awe, with some murmuring the nickname "Spellbreaker." Following his victory over the three intermediate soldiers, Encrid declares he is ready to face a superior soldier. A member of the elite Frontier Guard, a royal direct unit known as the Frontier Slaughterers, steps forward with interest to challenge him.
