The group realizes the fog is being maintained by Scalors, lizard-like monsters from the Demon Realm. Ragna charges into the mist, using his greatsword to clear the fog and decapitate a Scalor. An enemy wizard casts a fireball at Ann, but Encrid uses his dual-wielding technique to strike the fireball with the flat of his sword, causing it to fragment into smaller explosions. As the fog clears, the group discovers the presence of Brides of Plague, terrifying spirits that spread disease through touch. Ann, utilizing her skills as both a healer and an alchemist, provides the group with alchemical vials to coat their weapons. Ragna uses the alchemical coating to successfully purify and destroy a Bride of Plague. The battle continues as the Scalors attempt to mask their presence with hissing sounds and tactical strikes. Encrid remains vigilant, suspecting a wizard is still nearby, and kills a Scalor that was attempting to play dead. To reassure a frightened Ann, Encrid jokingly refers to his sword, Three Iron, as a lady wearing an amber dress, eventually settling into a combat stance to protect her.
