Assassins armed with daggers and crossbows launch a sudden attack on an inn where Encrid and his party are staying. Encrid kills one assailant by throwing a dagger into his forehead. On the first floor, Jaxon uses a chair as a shield and a sword to brutally dispatch attackers, while the Fairy Company Commander uses her Naidil to dance through the crowd, leaving many wounded or unconscious. The leader of the attackers, motivated by money rather than loyalty, decides to flee after realizing the guards are too skilled. One subordinate shouts "Glory to Aspen" before the group retreats. Encrid ascends to the second floor, noticing the physical benefits of the Isolation Technique. He uses a deceptive double-drawing technique to kill an assassin in the corridor. Encountering more assassins, Encrid uses his heightened senses to dodge a throwing knife and kills the attacker with a Whistle Dagger. He enters a room to find an assassin attacking a wounded caravan guard. To protect the guard, Encrid takes a sword wound to his back, using wrestling techniques to deflect the force. He then grabs the assassin by the thigh and charges through a window, sending both of them falling from the second floor.
