As they enter the secret passage, they realize it is a trap set by a unit of spearmen, shield bearers, and archers. The enemy commander, who knows Finn, mocks them. The group is overwhelmed; Encrid is mortally wounded by a spear to the thigh and head. As he dies, he hears the Ferryman's laughter, and the scene resets to the beginning of the day, marking another time loop.
