Yeon Sowol, a high school student preparing for the CSAT, experiences a bizarre bus crash on an overpass. The vehicle falls twenty meters, but instead of impact, the world tears apart like silk, revealing a rift between dimensions. Falling through this rift, Yeon Sowol experiences excruciating pain as his body is broken down, yet he endures to survive, gripping threads of the sky to slow his descent. Before landing, disembodied voices identify him as the 'Heaven-Killing Star,' a being capable of destroying anything it touches, seeking to consume his power to escape the cycle of the Nine Heavens. Yeon Sowol struggles against fishy, cold entities burrowing into his body, finally using his newfound ability to snap their threads, causing the ghosts to vanish. Upon landing in a martial arts world, he is confronted by Killing Demon, a skeletal old man who has just murdered an elderly monk. Killing Demon examines Yeon Sowol, noting his impure qi and foreign appearance, and deems him 'filthy' due to his mortal constitution. Realizing he has crossed dimensions and gained the power of the Heaven-Killing Star, Yeon Sowol wishes for his attacker to die. He grabs Killing Demon's wrist, and the old man instantly collapses, dead from a snapped connection, while Yeon Sowol lands safely on the dirt.
