Chapter 216

In the aftermath of a confrontation with the [Rainwater Echo] ghost story, the protagonist (Roe) evaluates the entity's suitability for Daydream Inc. Despite its origins potentially being linked to the Church of the Luminous Unknown, Roe determines it meets all criteria for Dream Essence production: it is clearable, survivable via specific behavioral patterns (avoiding rainwater), and easy to contain. Using smoke manipulation, Roe suppresses the ghost story, forcing it to vomit up the corpses of its previous victims—including a family—before shrinking the essence into a transportable form. The Badger Masked agent (Brown) intervenes as Roe's form begins to crumble from the intensity of the suppression, eventually helping to secure the entity in a Transport Cage. Following the mission, the Sales Team employee who called for help is informed that the "cost" of the service is not money, but labor, specifically being assigned to a branch office for several years. Back at the company's containment facility, Roe communicates with Researcher Kwak Jekang via smoke-drawn text. During a private moment after working hours, the Badger Masked agent and the Sergeant visit Roe in the containment cell. They bring a book and permission to use the unofficial name "Roe." Feeling a sense of nostalgia for a human form, Roe uses smoke to request a "Nostalgia Kitty." The Sergeant returns with the item—a red yarn that, when worn, fixes the wearer's form to their healthiest state from the past ten years. Roe wraps the yarn around their neck.
