At the Daydream Inc. annex lobby, Kim Soleum (Roe Deer) begins a first night shift working at the front desk from inside a transport cage. Kim's physical body is a grotesque, mashed-up mass of organs, scales, and talons, yet Kim manages to communicate via smoke-formed letters. Supervisor Park Minseong manages the desk alongside Kim, noting Kim's stabilized attitude. During the shift, Kim observes several familiar faces, including a Field Exploration Team member who flees in terror upon seeing the smoke-letters. At 3 AM, Assistant Manager Jin Nasol of Elite A-Squad arrives. She is joined by Assistant Manager Lee Seonghae, who brings snacks (Gamtte Oranda) for the staff. Lee Seonghae suggests letting Kim out of the cage, but Jin Nasol rebukes the idea, referring to Kim as 'Darkness.' Through their conversation, Park Minseong learns that Section Chief Lee Jaheon is currently on a long-term 'Dark Exploration' mission. Kim responds by writing 'I am not dead' on the paper, which immediately triggers a hurried, scribbled reply from the unseen sender.
