Inside the box, victims are held in digestive fluid that prevents death but ensures continuous, excruciating pain while their consciousnesses are linked. Kim Soleum, Ryu Jaekwan (Agent Bronze), and an unnamed schoolboy are trapped in separate membranes within the sac. As the Ascetic's digestive fluid is secreted, Kim Soleum uses his smoke transformation to manifest a horn and ring a bell, which helps restore his willpower. He attempts to use his tattoo to absorb the membrane, but the attempt only causes the sac to constrict and produce more fluid. Realizing the Ascetic's whispers link the pain to thought, Ryu Jaekwan begins to realize the nature of the pain. Kim Soleum decides to use the "Overwrite" ability to edit the box's description. He changes the rule from the box being unopenable to it being able to burst open if subjected to a powerful shock from within. Kim Soleum uses his hand to strike the membrane, providing that shock. The box bursts, liberating the victims and causing the Ascetic's narrative to collapse. Kim Soleum loses his human identity and consciousness in the process, being spat out alongside the others. Ryu Jaekwan regains consciousness first, finds the schoolboy, and then finds the unconscious Kim Soleum, noting that Kim Soleum's mask is intact but his eyes have lost their light. Ryu Jaekwan realizes they are back in the desolate underground bunker, which has been breached. He hears a roaring sound and the ringing of a bell, indicating a ceremonial jakdu is striking, and rushes outside with Kim Soleum.
