Researcher Park Kyung-hwan, a newly hired researcher at Daydream Inc., brags on the phone to a friend about his job while mocking the friend's unemployment. Suddenly, a Black Silhouette (the protagonist) ambushes him, strangling him and demanding he hang up. The intruder reveals he knows Park's secret: he stole a labmate's bioinformatics thesis. The intruder clips a piece of Park's fingernail using the Vole Nail Clippers. Using the nail, the protagonist transforms into Park Kyung-hwan to infiltrate the company as a Daily Researcher. The protagonist notes that being a newbie is advantageous as it minimizes contact with superiors like Director Cheong. While the protagonist contemplates how to override his permanent Security Team contract, Brown suggests using a more powerful employment contract to invalidate the old one. A week later, the transformed protagonist arrives at the Daydream Main Building in a lab coat to begin the 'theft of the Daydream Dream Machine' operation. While in the elevator, the protagonist encounters Supervisor Baek Saheon. To prevent future interference, the protagonist tries to subtly signal his true identity by making a cryptic remark about Saheon's village origins. However, a communication error occurs: instead of recognizing the protagonist as Kim Soleum, Saheon identifies him as the 'agent' who has been using the Paper Boat to pry into company business, mistakenly believing the protagonist is there to help him rather than to steal the machine.
