Following the cat's direction, the Daydream employees and the Bureau agents form a temporary, tense alliance to escape via the vessel. Agent Choi negotiates terms: the employees must use the shells to save as many children as possible and the Bureau will escort them out. Agent Choi also secures a tracking device on a shell and demands tail tissue as collateral. Ryu Jaekwan, concerned about the rookie agent (Kim Soleum/Grapes), attempts to find him. However, when they reach the central fountain, they find the rookie in a horrific state. Kim Soleum is heavily infected, his body transformed into a grotesque 'mer-child' with umbilical-like masses of flesh and ulcer-covered tails dangling from his waist. The chapter ends with the rookie smiling and asking to stay longer, leaving the two agents in a state of shock.
