He speculates it is an Abyss-grade Darkness because it produces Wish Tickets. Kim Soleum uses the 'carrot' recorder to manipulate the interrogation, feeding Kwak Jaekang's curiosity and leading him to believe that Kim Soleum is a high-ranking agent investigating Kwak's unauthorized observation of Darkness Qterw-B-553 (the J-squad incident). Kim Soleum uses the researcher's own past irregularities to cement the misunderstanding that the company is onto him. The chapter ends with Kim Soleum pushing the excited Kwak Jaekang toward the incubator and activating the carrot recorder to ask, 'What function do you think the machine in front of you has?'
