Chapter 19 — I Picked Up a Grimoire and Became a Wizard

Chapter 19

Kim Yo-han contemplates how to obtain rare materials for crafting a pentacle, concluding he must find a wizard society or market. Meanwhile, aspiring model Min-jun endures another failed audition and works part-time as a waiter. His colleague Pedro, a Black man with fluent Korean, closes the shop early for Pedro's farewell before returning to his hometown. Concerned about Min-jun's depression, Pedro introduces him to Voodoo and the Loa Erzulie Freda, teaching him the ritual's rules: maintain a white vanity, avoid cigarettes and marijuana, and never commit adultery at the altar. Min-jun performs the ritual and soon gains luck, passing a model audition and buying the wrong stock that skyrockets. In his new officetel, his model girlfriend opens the sealed room containing Erzulie Freda's altar. Smoking marijuana, Min-jun breaks the rules, and the goddess's portrait shakes and falls. The chapter closes with Yo-han listening to Min-jun's confession at a café, pitying the man who violated every rule.
