Chapter 48 — I Picked Up a Grimoire and Became a Wizard

Chapter 48

Yo-han travels by taxi to Kim Mi-ryeo's secret workshop, a disguised two-story building with keypad-locked doors. Inside, he discovers a lavish second-floor shelter complete with a professional indoor kiln, CCTV monitoring, and a safe containing documents, an ID, and a bankbook holding one hundred million won. Delighted by the spoils, he reflects on his priorities—safety and a peaceful life over greed. Meanwhile, in another location, the vampire alchemist Yoannis reads Yo-han's Mephisto Market question post under the handle Gyges and shares a dark mythological anecdote about Plato, Socrates, and Alcibiades. Chairman Kim, Yoannis's disciple, grows exasperated and demands answers about a three-billion-won bounty on the new De Vermis Mysteriis owner. Yoannis explains his hunting strategy: using hunters as hounds to exhaust the prey before negotiation or killing. The chapter closes with the realization that Yo-han remains unaware of the bounties placed on both him and his grimoire.
