Chapter 105 — I'm an Infinite Regressor, But I've Got Stories to Tell
Chapter 105
The team gathers at the entrance of the cursed Inunaki Tunnel, a continent-class anomaly that cannot be destroyed by conventional physical force. Manyo Neko explains that the Association previously attempted to blow up the tunnel with military-grade explosives, but it restored itself within minutes. Undateikeo (Mr. Undertaker) rejects this limitation, arguing that insufficient firepower is the issue. He unleashes his aura and repeatedly uses 'Secret Art: Tunnel Destruction,' blasting away the mountain ridge surrounding the tunnel until only the exposed concrete structure remains. Phantom Blade observes that exposing the tunnel removes the psychological fear of the dark, neutralizing one of the anomaly's defenses. The tunnel retaliates by displaying severed heads of Magical Girls pinned to the entrance with tiny nails, forcing their mouths into grotesque smiles and writing 'Welcome back' in their blood. Manyo Neko dismisses the horror, and the narrator photographs the scene before contacting Commander Yu Ji-won. Yu Ji-won confirms that the operation is underway: the strongest support team—consisting of the narrator, Yu Ji-won, the Saintess, and Noh Do-hwa—will manage dozens of death row inmates acting as 'chess pieces' to test the tunnel's hazards. The narrative then shifts to a manual for surviving the tunnel, recorded as 'Strategy' logs. Strategy 1 advises explorers to smell for a 'garbage odor' (safe) versus 'rotting corpses' (danger). Those who smell decay after seven steps must not return, or they will be severed; the rule was drafted after the first five inmates died discovering the smell emanated from their own bodies. Strategy 2 dictates staying on the left side of the tunnel, as the right side causes explorers to drown in invisible water. Yu Ji-won notes that Phantom Blade and a past version of Yu Ji-won died this way in a previous cycle. Strategy 3 addresses the graffiti-covered walls. Observing 'beautiful art' causes hallucinations and self-harm; the 14th inmate gouged out his eyes to paint the walls. If an explorer shows no reaction to the graffiti, they must be killed immediately. If chased by an infected 'observer,' explorers must cut off a digit, draw tattoo patterns on their face, and hide silently against the wall. The chapter ends with the confirmation of the 14th inmate's death and the continuation of the advance.
