Chapter 247

The narrative opens on the total collapse of humanity’s last sanctuary in Busan. The Collector of All Anomalies, Sim Ah-ryeon, has triggered a phenomenon where intense disdain transforms people into flora. Dang Seo-rin, hating the Anomaly but loving humanity, rapidly turns into a violet wisteria tree on the beach. The Protagonist, identified as the Undertaker andRegressor, witnesses this transformation, expressing sorrow and affection for his former ally. He finds Oh Dok-seo, who remains human and expresses uncertainty. They leave the floralized beach, leaving behind a city now entirely transformed into a garden, filled with the cries of newborns and the screams of those suffering from the transformation. The Protagonist notes that humanity’s final line of defense—Buasan’s infrastructure and the illusion of safety maintained by the Regressor’s Alliance and Ah-ryeon—lasted only 61 hours, 11 minutes, and 32 seconds. As they run through the crumbling cityscape, radio communications from the front lines degrade into madness and static as Void Poison corrupts the signals. The Protagonist crushes the radio, acknowledging the collapse of the front. They ascend the Tower of Babel to meet the remaining leaders: Noh Do-hwa, who bears floral scars; Yu Ji-won; Cheon Yo-hwa, who escaped combat; and Sim Ah-ryeon, praying silently. The Protagonist asks for Lee Ha-yul, whose fate is presumed dead. In a sudden, shocking move, the Protagonist questions Ji-won and then bisects her with his sword. When Dok-seo protests, he reveals that the body on the ground is an Anomaly mimicking Ji-won, its true form revealed as a mouse-raccoon hybrid once the corpse vanishes. He explains that Void Poison has already infiltrated the terrace. The Protagonist approaches Ah-ryeon, lifting her veil to reveal her face completely overgrown with various flowers, indicating her full transformation. He embraces her, and the flowers wilt, releasing a scent of a million blooms. Through flashbacks to a past cycle, the Protagonist recounts a conversation with Ah-ryeon where he explained her power: like the Udumbara cherry tree, her ability heals and suspends death by rejecting pain, effectively bypassing wound-related death. He had previously offered her the choice to use this power to stop the Monster Wave or erase it entirely, emphasizing her autonomy. Now, as she lies in a state of vegetative slumber, he recognizes that her comfort with him allowed her to accept this fate without regret. The Protagonist, having exhausted his Aura through battle, performs one final ritual using the last of his power channeled through a silver bell, igniting humanity’s final city in flames.
