Chapter 172 — Regression Is Too Much

Chapter 172

Kim Jun-ho enters Floor 15, a desolate landscape of black sky and magma filled with stone statues. He encounters the floor's administrator, an old man who carves the statues and oversees the trial. To test the floor's mechanics and the old man's nature without revealing his regression ability, Jun-ho pretends to be a confused newcomer. He asks to break the statues, and the old man encourages him to do so, even demonstrating by smashing a wolf statue himself. After Jun-ho destroys the remaining statues, the old man explains that the floor is a copy of a real place and the statues are merely keepsakes that regenerate. Following a regression triggered by the damage, Jun-ho returns and engages the old man in a deeper conversation, feigning despair over the Tower's hardships. The old man listens sympathetically, revealing his cynical view that the Tower primarily sacrifices climbers rather than testing humanity as a whole, before smiling brightly and dismissing Jun-ho's worries.
