Ise becomes determined to secure first place after learning about the rewards. The sparring round begins, and Ise swiftly defeats multiple opponents using the Borrowed Force Technique, leaving only six applicants standing. Kang I-tae declares that all but the winner must retake the exam. A failed applicant challenges the results, arguing that a three-spiritual-root bearer should not fail while a five-root bearer passes. Kang I-tae coldly explains the sect's body-tempering foundation and, after the applicant insults the sect, tears out his tongue as punishment. The chapter ends with Ise inviting Hae Unchan to train together after eating, and Hae Unchan declining while worrying about Ise's reaction.
