Chapter 147 — The Tale of Cultivation and Demon Extermination

Chapter 147

Ise rescues a seven-year-old orphan girl from an abusive household, sends her to headquarters on Bisang, and receives a message talisman assigning him to investigate an epidemic in Ojuk County. Arriving at dusk, he finds the county sealed off under martial law; the county magistrate has fled and only a plague-afflicted clerk remains. The town is ravaged by a parasitic demon called the Sky-Piercing Worm, which spreads through adults while sparing children. Ise summons Seolryeong, Hong Wonseo, and Pi Garam to assist. Seolryeong performs a spirit requiem rite to contain Ghost Wails, Pi Garam deploys an insect-killing formation to exterminate the parasites, and Hong Wonseo identifies the worm and treats victims with Regeneration Pellets. After the initial measures succeed, Ise notes how much his companions have grown. The remaining challenge is destroying the queen worm buried deep in an underground nest, which requires the team to infiltrate it themselves.
