Chapter 37 opens with Ise and his companions fleeing a demonic cultivator on a cliff, who is charging a thunderbolt attack. He commands Pi Garam to set up a disruption formation from the Shadow Agent manual, asks Hong Wonseo for help, and urges Seolryeong to find an escape route. After Seolryeong nervously uses a talisman to sense the way out, Ise seals demonic qi with his Twin-Curtain Spirit-Domain Sealing Banner and blocks the thunderbolt with a black iron shield. The impact costs him his left arm below the elbow. Gwak Chan appears with a greatsword to cover their retreat, telling the juniors to return to the outpost. The four flee southwest under Seolryeong's guidance while Gwak Chan holds off the demonic cultivator, ending with Ise resolved to grow stronger.
