Jaxon, a companion of Encrid, discovers that Hans was drugged and hypnotized. The situation escalates when a messenger from the Black Blade Bandits arrives, attempting to recruit Encrid and his group while threatening them. The messenger also attempts to use assassins, but Encrid's group quickly dispatches them. When the messenger tries to use a smoke bomb, Rem kills him instantly by throwing a fire axe into his head. After Jaxon loots the messenger's body and finds more drugs, the group proceeds to their original destination to meet a dwarf. They find the dwarf eating in a forge, and the chapter concludes with the dwarf making a bold remark about their fighting abilities and teasing Rem.
