Andrew Gardner, the heir to a fallen noble family, is a dedicated scout squad leader driven by his mother's dying wish to revive his family's prestige. Despite his competence, he views the current squad leader, Encrid, as a lazy, bottom-tier soldier who lacks true professionalism. This tension culminates in a confrontation when Andrew and his three loyal, thuggish soldiers surround Encrid. Encrid, who has been using time loops to practice subduing opponents through coercion, quickly and efficiently incapacitates two of the soldiers using superior skill and movement. When the third soldier hesitates, Encrid challenges Andrew to a duel to decide who will lead the squad. Andrew, feeling insulted by Encrid's perceived lack of experience and maturity, accepts the challenge. Despite Andrew's training, Encrid dominates the fight with a single, precise elbow strike to the solar plexus, leaving Andrew incapacitated and questioning the true nature of Encrid's skill.
