A Royal Guard officer, conflicted by Krang's philosophical challenge regarding the 'right path,' chooses to defect and assists Marcus's escape. Marcus flees on horseback, pursued by a mysterious 'Madman of Immortality,' and eventually reaches Encrid, heavily wounded. Encrid, observing the chaos, decides to head to the palace to save Krang. He recruits a group of soldiers, including Squire Lawford and the Captain of the South Gate guard, by appealing to their will and duty to protect the citizens. Ragna and Dunbachel are tasked with blocking the advancing enemy forces. Encrid's plan is to have his unit handle challengers while the recruited forces hold the gates. As the group moves toward the west gate, they struggle with their sense of direction, but they march forward to face the unfolding crisis.
