Encrid seeks information from Jaxon regarding the 'Whistling Knife,' a lethal, fast-moving dagger known as the Silent Rain Blade. Jaxon explains that the weapon is difficult to counter because it is nearly impossible to track with the eye once it is heard. He advises Encrid to focus on the assassin's hand movements rather than the sound. After a brief, blunt lesson on how to hold and throw various blades, Encrid prepares for the day. During a patrol, Encrid executes a plan to lure out an assassin. He trips Jack, killing him instantly with a guard sword, and then engages the assassin, a half-blood fairy, in combat. Despite using Jaxon's advice to focus on visual cues, the assassin uses a unique tactic, striking Encrid's forearm to disable his ability to hold his shield. A second dagger then pierces Encrid's heart, killing him. As he dies, Encrid taunts the assassin, suggesting they will meet again. Upon resetting to the morning, Encrid uses the knowledge gained from his death to approach Jaxon again. He offers anything, even a blank check, to learn how to handle the Whistling Knife, driven by an intense desire to master the weapon that killed him.
