During a large-scale monster extermination mission, a Heavy Infantry Platoon Leader struggles to manage his unit when a sudden harpy attack occurs. As the Heavy Infantry forms a defensive 'turtle' formation, two light infantry soldiers, Encrid and Rem, arrive and begin fighting the harpies with superhuman efficiency. The Platoon Leader watches in disbelief as Encrid and Rem kill multiple harpies using precise, high-level swordsmanship and axe-wielding, appearing more like elite specialists than ordinary soldiers. The harpy swarm eventually retreats after losing several members. Torres and the Border Guard arrive to provide support, only to find the combat already largely resolved. Torres observes Encrid's overwhelming improvement in skill, noting the impossibility of such rapid growth. After the skirmish, Rem teases Encrid about his sudden, extraordinary prowess, which Encrid dismisses as luck. Despite the danger, Encrid expresses a hunger for more combat to further internalize his training. When the Platoon Leader informs him that the mission is not yet over because the primary target—a pack of humanoid dogs—is still at large, Encrid immediately requests to join the continued fight, much to the bewilderment of the commanding officers.
