The survivors, unable to use phones or find a signal, rely on snacks and a sense of group security, though tension is high. The pale-faced office worker, visibly shaken by his colleague's death, offers a chocolate bar to a student but is rebuffed. One student, feeling unnerved, goes to the backyard to find his smoking friends. Upon entering a storage shed, he discovers a gruesome scene: his friends have been processed through a construction-grade grinding machine, leaving only shredded flesh, blood, and bone. As he vomits in terror, the rhythmic humming from the cassette tape begins again. The student bolts back into the lodge, screaming that he is throwing his tape away to the others before locking himself in his room. He attempts to stay alert with a jackknife, but as he leans against a wall, the door of a lacquered wardrobe in his room creaks open.
