After the usher machines disappear, masked members of the Field Exploration Team emerge from hiding. Baek Saheon suggests using rookies as bait to encounter monsters, but Kim Soleum retorts that they already have bait, causing Baek Saheon to vow to find someone else to use as bait as well. Kim Soleum encounters Go Yeongeun, a new hire, hiding in the exhibition hall. She reveals she has lost an ear to the machines, which demanded 'ear instead of eye,' and has been fitted with a strange artificial replacement. Go Yeongeun attempts to find an exit via a window, but Kim Soleum warns her that the mansion's records state the exhibition has no windows, and exiting through one might lead to a non-real space. They realize they are on the first floor but cannot be certain a door exists, as the mansion's logic is unpredictable. The group, now including a wary Go Yeongeun and an exasperated Baek Saheon, moves toward a staircase leading to the basement.
