Chapter 40 — Regression Is Too Much

Chapter 40

Kim Jun-ho awakens in the medieval-style city of Floor 2, noting his automatic gear change to beginner leather armor. He instinctively dodges David Trout, a large, highly social black man who introduces himself and suggests they stick together. Jun-ho brushes him off and approaches an energetic angel by the fountain who enthusiastically explains the floor's clear condition: obtain a recognition sigil from a city resident without leaving the city area. The angel praises Archangel Raphael and outlines the reward tiers. Jun-ho observes a poster signed by M.Z. (Michael Zetter) advising climbers to stock up on potions for training. A middle-aged white man confirms the poster's author and mentions an unofficial American climber community. Jun-ho reflects on Zetter's advice, realizing it is useless for his regression ability. Suddenly, a woman with a golden sigil sprints into the square, only to be blocked by three men in the alley. She stops and negotiates rather than fighting, confirming that violence is forbidden on this floor.
