Chapter 2

Ise and Mongryeon arrive at Gwisu Temple, a dokkaebi sacred ground marked by a warning sign. Crossing the sacred cord transforms the lush spring mountains into a blood-red, demonic landscape. Mongryeon explains that dokkaebi are not ordinary demons but humanity's allies, and Ise accepts her guidance. Inside the temple gate, horned dokkaebi initially glare with red eyes until Mongryeon declares Ise a new family member, calming the crowd. Mongryeon entrusts Ise to Gonga, a lively young female dokkaebi who tours him around the temple, introduces him to the kitchen matron Chanmo, and ensures he is fed. Later, three young dokkaebi boys confront Ise, jealous of Gonga's attention, but Ise defuses them with a fabricated tragic backstory. Gonga arrives to scold the boys and apologizes, telling Ise the Chief is looking for him.
