Chapter 4

Six years after his first encounter, Ise lives at Gwisu Temple as a tall teenager. Gonga and the three young dokkaebi boys — Gong Ilchwi, Gong Woljang, and Goegeol — play and spar with him. The boys learn that Goecheon returned from the village reporting a low-ranking demon, and they persuade Ise to join a hunt. Ise refuses, but suspects the youngsters have secretly overheard Goecheon's demon report and gone off on their own. He confronts Goecheon, who confirms the boys know about the Child Ghost. Ise arms himself with signal flares and sacred relics from the Relic Vault and heads for the Red Marsh. Meanwhile, the three dokkaebi track the baby's cries into a clearing, only to be ambushed by the demon in a violent surprise attack.
