Chapter 6 — I Picked Up a Grimoire and Became a Wizard

Chapter 6

In this chapter, Yo-han spends time at the library reading Cthulhu Mythos stories to understand the background of Abdul Alhazred mentioned in De Vermis Mysteriis. He reflects on how Cthulhu was stopped by a steamship charge rather than truly defeated, and considers whether fictional mythos could gain real magical power through collective belief. That evening, on the day of Mercury with the moon up, he attempts to create Holy Water using salt and water while reciting incantations. The ritual appears to succeed, producing actual magical water. He then crafts a Holy Water sprinkler from hyssop. Grizzly the Vampire familiar appears, asking for a snack, but Yo-han tells him he already ate dinner. Later lying on his bed, Yo-han feels a wave of emptiness and wonders what he is doing. He checks the refrigerator, prepares Grizzly's snack, and browses job listings for short-term work. He spots a night security part-time posting with unusual requirements and contemplates testing his newly created Holy Water.
